The call for greater individual control over personal data and increased privacy protections has been getting louder in recent years. The GDPR has already made considerable impacts in Europe and, on January 1, 2020, California’s own consumer privacy act, the CCPA, will take effect. How this greater focus on privacy will interact with existing antitrust regulations is still an open question, but at the California Lawyers Association’s 2019 Annual Meeting, On the Road host Jeewon Kim Serrato sits down with Jose Lopez from Samsung Next, Njeri Mutura from Microsoft, and Alisa Hall from eBay to discuss how this new legislation and this larger cultural shift will likely affect both incumbent players and new entrants alike, and what new considerations counsel should be thinking about when providing guidance.

Jose Lopez is the senior director of M&A legal at Samsung Next.

Njeri Mutura is a senior corporate attorney at Microsoft.

Alisa Hall is the director of privacy and compliance at eBay.
