Record numbers of individuals, immigrants and non-immigrants alike, have been dis-enrolling from public benefit programs after draft changes to current immigration rules were leaked to the press, fearing that being on public benefits would adversely impact their immigration status. Other individuals no longer apply for public benefits when eligible out of fear. The leaked changes have not become law, but the impact has been unmistakable.
Come learn about what legal changes have been made by the Department of State and what immigrant visa applicants must show to overcome this ground of inadmissibility, as well as what changes are still in the works with the Department of Homeland Security to expand the public benefit programs that can be considered and other factors that must be considered beyond the affidavit of support.
