In Wayfair, the United States Supreme Court reversed over half a century of sales/use tax nexus jurisprudence by eliminating the constitutional requirement that an out-of-state seller have an in-state physical presence before it may be required to collect and remit sales/use tax. The states are now scrambling to adopt new state laws to enable sales/use tax collection from such sellers. This program will provide an update on how California and other states have or are proposing to implement Wayfair, and address various issues faced by remote sellers as a result of Wayfair, which expand beyond sales/use tax into other state and local business taxes.
